What is Project Connect? Many countries still do not know where their schools, let alone if pupils at the schools have access to modern technologies and the internet. UNICEF and its partners are using satellite imagery and machine learning to map the location and connectivity level of every school in the world. This mapping will allow UNICEF to promote digital collaboration and advocate for Internet connectivity worldwide. To date, UNICEF has worked with Governments, Mobile Network Operators, technology companies and others to map schools in 9 countries, collecting data for more than 500,000 schools, and gaining connectivity information for more than 120,000 of them. UNICEF is already partnering with several UN Entities and actively looking for new partners to join them in scaling this project globally.
Who should attend? This webinar may be most interesting for colleagues working on education, data innovation (including geospatial data, ML) and connectivity, but no technical background is required.
