The ITCILO Manifesto on Emerging Technologies for Social Justice was co-created by 23 staff during a six-month participatory learning journey (July-December), combining in-person and online sessions on AI, virtual reality, quantum computing and neurotechnologies.
- Participants worked directly with the technologies through sandbox experiences, co-creation events, webinars and field visits, for example to a quantum computing lab at the Politecnico di Torino
- The Manifesto articulates five commitments: leverage emerging technologies in support of social justice; keep humans at the centre; ensure accessibility, transparency and ethical use; make evidence the entry point; and strengthen institutional readiness
- It serves as a common reference for future decisions, initiatives and partnerships, and is a living document to be reviewed over time
- The participatory methodology can be applied by other institutions; ITCILO offers support through learninginnovation@itcilo.org
