UN Innovation Update (October 2026)

This edition brings together innovation highlights from entities across the UN system. Three themes run through it: - **Collaboration as a strategic necessity:** entities are investing in shared platforms, data and infrastructure that others can reuse, such as the UN System Data Commons, UNICC's AI Gateway and ESCAP's Digital Cockpit, rather than building separate solutions. - **AI embedded in core work:** AI is increasingly part of business processes and knowledge work, from an AI assistant used by more than 20,000 UN Secretariat colleagues to specialised tools like ITU's "Ask HR" assistant, UNICEF's "PHI" workspace and UNFPA's Evaluation Assistant. - **Look first, then build, with scale in mind:** readers are invited to check whether solutions already exist elsewhere in the UN system before creating something new, and to design for scaling and collaboration from the outset.
