The Service Design Consultant will provide support, guidance, and expertise in several programme areas and UNICEF Innovation initiatives. We seek a candidate with a relevant design background, including but not limited to: service design, visual design, design strategy, human-centered design, experience design, systems design, and interaction design.
Due to the diversity of the role, the team is looking for a hybrid designer with experience collaborating across various devices, platforms, and approaches. The ideal candidate has a working knowledge of several mediums to bring ideas to life while also exploring the ambiguity of systems, processes and interactions. The ideal candidate must have a strong sense of UNICEF’s programmes and goals, and express a passion for designing for social impact through their portfolio. As a cross-pollinator, we seek a candidate who has experience communicating easily with a diverse range of stakeholders - designers and non-designers alike - and who has a knack for extrapolating information from team members and translating it in simple, articulate, and compelling ways that can move an initiative forward.
The designer must be able to apply these practices across the Office of Innovation’s portfolio of initiatives, supporting a diverse team even under tight time constraints. Whether by facilitating workshops/sprints with project teams, creating prototypes, or synthesizing findings into compelling visual materials, the ideal candidate needs to be a top-level designer able to work closely with the Design Team and contribute to building a strong portfolio of work at the Office of Innovation. The designer would need to take the initiative to learn content as the project demands and pull together various team members to produce well-rounded work.
Provide design strategy, research, and sensemaking support to the Futures team around focus areas. Conduct design research around existing innovation work at UNICEF and produce documentation - both visual and written - that helps enhance this work.
Work with the Partnerships, Communication, and management teams to reimagine and streamline internal initiatives, including onboarding and offboarding processes.
Work with the Design Team Lead to find additional ways to provide new and efficient means to support the operational design of the Office of Innovation.
Work across teams at the Office of Innovation to develop end-to-end experiences, touchpoints and materials for events when needed and ensure they match with the Innovation brand.
Work with project leads to develop updated product/service narratives that clearly explain their value, direction, results, and potential in compelling ways.
Introduce and champion service design methodologies in Innovation projects. Build capacity for both designers and non-designers to adopt strategies, tools and approaches.
