Social Media Data Tracker

The UNFPA Social Media Data Tracker is an automatic web scraping tool that extracts data from social media channels, which not only include social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc., but also include blogs, wikis, and news sites. All of these portals share something in common - they are all yielding user-generated content in the form of unstructured data that is accessible only through the web. In order to build a tool (Dashboard) that responds to the needs of people, it is proposed to make an alliance with the academy (universities and research centers) to carry out a software development contest that feeds the technical development of the tool. This mechanism of Call for Action allows the university or tech partner to deepen its knowledge in data intelligence and machine learning, as well as the UNFPA team to have a more refined concept. The visualization of data plays a fundamental role, that is why design workshops will be conducted with the user to generate ideas around the best ways of visualizing the results of the scraping of social media.
