Equipped with hypothetical case studies, this course is designed to speed up the change to digital technology, encourage new ideas, and support national growth goals.

This course familiarizes participants with the FAO Science and Innovation Strategy. It introduces the Strategy's core components – the pillars, outcomes, enablers, and guiding principles – fostering a holistic understanding of the Strategy. Key concepts such as science, innovation, and technology are defined, highlighting their roles in driving progress. The course presents the Strategy's vision, goal, and scope, emphasizing better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind, in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Practical application is emphasized, enabling learners to apply the Strategy to real-world scenarios to promote sustainable agrifood systems.

As courts modernise procedures and information systems, AI tools are increasingly introduced to support judicial work, case management, evidence analysis and access to legal information. These technologies can strengthen efficiency, consistency and access to justice. Yet they also raise fundamental questions about fairness, due process, transparency, explainability, and accountability. The course will address the following questions, and many more: - How should judges assess algorithmic outputs presented in court? - What safeguards are needed to prevent bias or over-reliance on automated systems? - How can courts adopt innovation while preserving independence and public trust? Developed in partnership with UNESCO, this course provides a human rights-based framework for understanding AI’s impact on justice systems and safeguarding the rule of law.
